Council is proposing
Endorsement of a new Local Area Strategic Bicycle Plan.
A draft Local Area Strategic Bicycle Plan (LASBP) was prepared late last
year after initial consultation with the public, government and interest
groups in mid 2015. The LASBP is a strategic document laying out a
framework to enable Council Members and staff to prioritise actions in the
coming years and to assist in seeking external funding for larger projects
beyond the financial means of Council.
Three documents are available for review by the community as part of this consultation:
Executive summary. A three page summary of the key points of LASBP.
Local Area Bicycle Strategy. This will be the document to be endorsed by Council after community consultation is complete and final amendments are made.
Resource Document. Supports the LASBP through the provision of further information and a more detailed discussion of possible actions. It has been produced to provide support for those implementing the Strategy by providing further data and ideas that might be taken up. This includes results of initial community consultation, specific examples of potential infrastructure improvements, wayfinding research and recommendations, potential new routes, external funding opportunities and crash data.
It should be noted the LASBP and accompanying the Resource Document identify numerous potential infrastructure improvements across the Council area. Adoption of the Strategy, however, does not mean these projects will necessarily be undertaken. Individual projects will be reviewed and approved by Council on a case by case basis after more detailed assessment and design and separate, more focused community consultation.
Have Your Say
