Lobethal Hub gets official name

Council has chosen an official name for the Arts and Heritage Hub at the former Onkaparinga Woollen Mill, Lobethal.
That name is 'Fabrik'.

The name came through community suggestions of variants of 'fabric', in recognition of the old woollen mill's functions, as well as giving a nod to the township's German roots, with the word 'fabrik' being the German word for factory, or industrial facility. Council staff close to the space also feel that it reflects the fabric of our communities and how creative pursuits weave through everyone.

We are looking forward to developing an exciting program of events, exhibitions, and workshops at the newly named site.

The suggestion portal for a name generated upwards of 50 ideas and key themes included The Mill, weaving/fabric, Onkaparinga, German, and heart. These, along with base key themes of textiles, 'makers', and German/Prussian settlers will be kept on hand and considered when naming specific elements of the site and future programs run there.
