Two crowd-favourite Adelaide Hills towns are making a comeback in 2019 with the Stage 3 route for the Santos Tour Down Under announced this morning from Lobethal to Uraidla.
Lobethal is set for an exciting morning as the race returns to the town for only the second time in its history. Riders will complete two laps of the township including sprints in Charleston, before tackling Subaru King of the Mountain up Fox Creek Road.
Fresh off successfully hosting their first stage finish in 2018, Uraidla is the place to be again this January with the riders completing a circuit of the Piccadilly Valley multiple times on the way to the finish line.
"The finish into Uraidla is set to be a spectacle with a new punchy 14 km circuit which will see the peloton complete seven laps of Uraidla. We expect massive support and fanfare from the community as there are multiple opportunities to set up roadside and see the peloton race by seven times," said Mike Turtur, Race Director, Santos Tour Down Under.
"The 2019 Stage 3 Tour is going to be a display we haven't seen before with the multiple laps giving spectators more opportunity to see the riders flying by and jostling for the finish line,' said Adelaide Hills Council Mayor Bill Spragg.
"It's also a great opportunity for our community and businesses to showcase the beauty, culture and innovation of the Adelaide Hills region to a truly global audience," said Mayor Spragg.
The 2019 Santos Tour Down Under will be held from Thursday 10 until Sunday 20 January. Stage 3 will start in Lobethal at 11.00am on Thursday 17 January with the peloton expected to arrive in Uraidla at 2:30pm to finish the day.
