REPORT ON EVALUATION OF CONSERVATION RESERVES

At its meeting of 28 June 2011, Council endorsed the evaluation of Conservation Reserves in the Adelaide Hills Council Report

This evaluation was requested when Council was debating dog access in a number of Council reserves.  The intent of the report is to provide an independent evaluation of the biodiversity values in those reserves classified for Conservation purposes in Council's Community Lands register.

This information will now be used to assist in management of the reserves and will also form an input to the review of Council's Animal Management Plans.  The Animal Management Plan review is expected to start in September 2011 and will include extensive community and stakeholder consultation during the review process.

A number of documents will be available shortly. The document labelled "Report" is available for you to view or download now and contains the methodology for the biodiversity assessments and the various tables that summarise the findings of the assessment.  The other documents soon to be available relate to each individual reserve and contain maps of each reserve and the detailed reports on each precinct within the reserve.

The nature of the native vegetation varies from reserve to reserve and within the reserves therefore the assessments have been undertaken by dividing reserves into precincts.  The precincts have been selected by the consultant and reflect a consistent vegetation type or condition within each precinct.
