Hills Positive Ageing Project

The Hills Positive Ageing Project (HPAP) supports a collaborative network of around 80 aged care service providers and planners and aims to improve the lives of older people and their carers across the Hills Region.

It is funded by the Office for the Ageing, the Adelaide Hills Community Heath Service, the Adelaide Hills Council, the District Council of Mount Barker and the Alexandrina Council.

Through the HPAP, Adelaide Hills Council has been working with community members and the other participating Councils (Alexandrina Council link and District Council of Mount Barker link) to develop the Region's first positive ageing plan.

The Hills Positive Ageing Strategy 2020 - Planning for Our Ageing Community, which was recently launched by the Chair of the Ministerial Advisory Board on Ageing and former Senator, Dr Rosemary Crowley, identifies the crucial role of:

  • the built environment
  • positive attitudes and image
  • community connection and participation
  • sustainable service delivery, and
  • employment and volunteerism

in the ability of people to 'age positively' in their own community.

Three smaller and local government specific plans have also been developed as part of the Strategy and are at various stages of being incorporated into each of the participating Council's policies and planning processes.
