Meet Chipper the Happy Cat

Chipper the Happy Cat is here to help Adelaide Hills residents prepare for the upcoming Cats By-law, commencing on 1 January 2022. At this time all residential cats will be required to remain on their own properties at all times.

From paw-some advice on how to keep your cat comfy at home, to helping you get fur-miliar with the new rules for owning a cat in the Hills, Chipper knows it all.

We want to ensure that your cat is comfortable and happy at home. This is why, before the enforcement of the new By-law, we will be holding events and information sessions to help owners understand what new rules mean for them.

In our 2018 survey on the confinement of cats in the Adelaide Hills, 80% of community respondents were in favour of the By-law.

Benefits of keeping your cat confined to your property:

  • It will help us decrease the feral cat population and threat to native flora and fauna around our area,
  • It will reduce the risk of your cat getting sick, injured or lost, and
  • It promotes responsible cat ownership, reduces environmental damage and will assist in the safety of resident pets.
