This year’s winners are a true inspiration to us all, and were selected from a pool of high calibre nominees. Our community is fortunate to have so many generous volunteers who donate their time and knowledge as active citizens.
The 2024 Citizen of the Year Awards provide an opportunity to formally recognise the important and valuable work that individuals and organisations have made to the local community.
Many Adelaide Hills locals have been recognised with awards this Australia Day at ceremonies held in Gumeracha, Stirling and Uraidla.
Dagmar Skipworth, has been awarded the Adelaide Hills Council Citizen of the Year 2024. As a founding member of the Imagine Uraidla committee, Dagmar has seen the organisation grow from its grassroots foundations to a thriving community movement.
Dagmar's work has been invaluable, she has brought her business experience, passion for community connection and care as a steward, organiser and loyal contributor.
Her fellow committee members and nominators speak very highly of her and the significant impact she has made to her community.
The Young Citizen of the Year Award 2024 was presented to 26-year-old Upper Sturt local, Georgia McDonnell and Vice-President of the Upper Sturt Soldiers Memorial Hall.
Taking on a leadership role by being elected as vice-president of the local hall has breathed new life into the community.
Georgia took the lead on organising many successful events and also raising funds for the Upper Sturt Soldiers Memorial Hall and the local CFS – her energy and determination is contagious.
The Houghton Spring Fair and the Uraidla and Summertown Show have both been recognised as the Community Event of the Year 2024.
The Houghton Spring Fair is an annual event that has been running for five years and embraces local talent and diversity.
The Uraidla and Summertown Show is a key annual event and the cornerstone of the region.
The Houghton Spring Fair is where members of the community, local artists and vendors come together. It showcases the absolute best of the community.
The Uraidla and Summertown Show attracts many visitors and is a true reflection of the township. It spotlights the many values and offerings from local producers of the Adelaide Hills.
An additional seven Civic Awards were also presented to Adelaide Hills locals who have made an outstanding contribution to their community and made an impact through acts of kindness and generosity.
