HERD Network strengthens inclusive emergency preparedness in the Hills
Formed in 2024 after attending workshops on disability-inclusive emergency planning, HERD Network members have been meeting regularly to learn, share experiences, and advocate for change. Their focus is on raising awareness about personal emergency preparedness and ensuring that people with disability are considered in emergency planning across the region.
Over the past year, the group has completed peer leadership training, developed and distributed emergency preparedness resources, contributed to a new disability-focused webpage, and produced a video to encourage planning ahead. HERD Network has also joined local Community Support Hubs, participated in radio interviews, and attended South Australia’s first Disability Inclusive Emergency Planning (DIEP) Forum.
Members have contributed to council-led initiatives and provided input into the review of the People at Risk in Emergencies Framework, ensuring disability perspectives are embedded in broader emergency planning.
The HERD Network continues to be a crucial component in shaping practical, inclusive approaches to emergency preparedness in the Hills.
