New Woodside Splash Park ready to make a splash this summer

Adelaide Hills families can look forward to an exciting new way to beat the heat, with the new splash park at the Adelaide Hills War Memorial Swimming Centre in Woodside officially opening this weekend.

The splash park will be open to the public from Saturday 8 November if the forecast in Mount Barker is 25°C or above, marking the start of the swimming season.

An official launch event will be held at 4pm on Friday 7 November, with representatives from the Australian Government, State Government, Adelaide Hills Council, and local stakeholder groups joining local families to celebrate the new facilities.

Acting Mayor Nathan Daniell said the new splash park provides a much-needed recreational space for the community.

As the only outdoor swimming centre in the region, this splash park offers families a safe, fun and accessible place to cool off on hot summer days.

This project reaffirms our commitment to investing in quality infrastructure. Having grown up around outdoor pools myself, I understand the incredible value this site provides for the health and wellbeing of our community.

— Acting Mayor, Nathan Daniell

The $750,000 project was jointly funded by Adelaide Hills Council, the Adelaide Hills War Memorial Swimming Centre, and the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

Designed and built by Water Features by Design, the splash park takes inspiration from the region’s landscapes and features vines, grapes and native flora in its design. The new play area includes a dumper bucket, water cannons, cascading mushrooms, arch sprays, and a rock feature with a hand pump that lets kids direct water through a series of weirs.

Chairperson of the Swimming Centre, Andrew Stratford, said the new facilities add an exciting new dimension to the much-loved community pool.

We’re excited to welcome the public to enjoy this vibrant new space for the summer season.

Water safety starts at a young age, and with these new facilities we now have a space for the little ones to enjoy the water and begin learning those vital skills in a safe and fun environment.

— Centre Chairperson, Andrew Stratford

The Adelaide Hills War Memorial Swimming Centre season officially begins on Saturday 8 November, with opening hours subject to daily weather conditions.
