News from the Chamber from your Mayor, Nathan Daniell
Last month I was honoured to be elected as Mayor of the Adelaide Hills Council. I look forward to working respectfully and productively with my fellow elected members so that, together, we can make decisions in the best interests of our community. The chamber has appointed Cr Lucy Huxter as Deputy Mayor. Lucy and I look forward to working closely together for the remainder of this Council term.
Council asked the Administration to investigate options for working collaboratively with State and Federal agencies to identify preferred potential development outcomes for the Woodside Barracks site. A collaborative approach will be essential to ensure the community’s views are well represented as the matter progresses.
We also agreed to advocate against the State Government’s proposed creation of Destination Management Zones (DMZs). The model risks diminishing the effectiveness, identity and resourcing of Adelaide Hills Tourism, a highly effective organisation which helps showcase our region to the world.
In community news, Council supported progressing a lease with the Torrens Valley Lions Club to take over the operations of the Gumeracha Op Shop. The Lions Club has a strong history of community service and we appreciate their willingness to support this valued local facility.
The chamber also adopted Budget Review 2 and the updated Long Term Financial Plan, helping ensure Council continues to manage its finances responsibly while planning for the delivery and renewal of services and infrastructure across the district.
Finally, Council supported the Local Government Association’s advocacy position calling for increased funding for public libraries, recognising the important role libraries play in learning, connection and community access to services.
