This position contributes to the objectives of the Open Space department by undertaking field-based horticulture duties in a variety of work environments across the Council district. Your work will contribute Council’s landscape infrastructure and operational programs.
This role will be dedicated to implementing new or improved Horticulture services. This hands-on role will directly deliver various works including but not limited to, grass slashing, turf mowing and management, vegetation pruning, weed and vegetation management, garden bed maintenance, cemetery interments, tree and plant renewal, public realm maintenance requirements including the application of chemicals and playground infrastructure audits.
The incumbent will be required to undertake all aspects of the Horticulture teams work actions utilising a broad variety of machinery and hand tools. The position directly reports to one of the three Leading Hand Horticulture staff members.

Team Member Horticulture (This is a full-time permanent position)
- Maintain Council’s property, infrastructure and assets by assisting with the implementation of Horticulture and Vegetation annual maintenance programs.
- Undertake tasks to deliver Horticulture and vegetation management services.
- Contribute to process improvements and updates.
- Contribute to workplace continuous improvement processes and team progression.
- Operate and maintain plant safely, including trucks, mowers, tractors and specialised plant.
- Support other field services tasks as required to meet seasonal and operational demands.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Certificate III in Horticulture (or willingness to undertake) and/or equivalent experience in these fields
- Up to date of current industry knowledge and practices.
- Ability to delivery operational works in line with Council’s quality standards.
- Proven ability to comply with WHS and risk management policies and procedures.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
- Actively contribute to a supportive team environment.
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage time and tasks requirements
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- A valid National Police Certificate, Driver history Check and Medical Clearance which is satisfactory to the Council’s requirements will be required before the successful applicant can commence in this position.
