In this introductory workshop jeweller and metalsmith Regine Schwarzer will teach you how to design and make a custom sized sterling silver ring, using wax carving methods.

This is the perfect opportunity to learn how to carve, manipulate and texture wax to shape your own ring, which will be cast in sterling silver.

Step by step Regine will guide you through sizing, designing and shaping your special ring. As the day progresses you will experiment with various tools and methods to add texture, pattern and other intricate details to your ring design. To ensure comfort and wearability, Regine will show you how to properly size and fit your ring.

By the end of the workshop you will have completed a hand carved wax model of your ring. It will then be cast in sterling silver at a foundry after the workshop. Regine will collect your ring from the foundry and finish it for you, ready for collection.

Completed silver rings will be available for collection from Fabrik approximately 3 weeks after the workshop. Postal deliveries to be arranged directly with Regine.

Optional gem inclusion

For a small additional fee, you may wish to add a small round gem to your ring design. Regine will set this for you after the workshop. You can either bring your own gem or source one from Regine at the workshop. Regine's selection includes yellow, blue and green Australian Sapphires, between 2-3mm diameter.

About the facilitating artist

Regine Schwarzer is a nationally and internationally recognised jeweller and metalsmith who holds a Masters Degree in Visual Arts and Design. Born in Germany, she grew up in Bavaria, training in jewellery-making and metalwork at the Zeichenakademie Hanau, one of the oldest training institutions in Europe. Her move to Australia in 1993 profoundly influenced her work, as she discovered a passion for rocks and minerals which occur in abundance here. Inspired by the colours and structures of these minerals, she learned how to shape them and uses them often in her work.

Exhibiting nationally and internationally, her work is included in many private and public collections, and has been published numerous times in books and magazines. Throughout her career Regine has lectured at the Adelaide College of the Arts, and she continues to present workshops in Adelaide and interstate. Regine is also represented at Fabrik's curated gallery shop.
