Harmony Week is a yearly celebration of Australia’s cultural diversity and the many benefits it brings to our community.
This year, Harmony Week runs from 16–22 March. It includes the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD) on Saturday 21 March. Harmony Week is an Australian Government initiative led by the Department of Home Affairs.
Harmony Week is a time to celebrate that Australia is one of the world’s most successful multicultural societies. It’s about inclusion, respect and belonging for everyone — no matter your cultural or language background.
Our cultural diversity
Cultural diversity is one of Australia’s greatest strengths. It helps make our country a vibrant and welcoming place to live.
Building on more than 65,000 years of First Nations cultures, Australia is now home to people from nearly 300 different ancestries. Our migration history has shaped the modern nation we are today.
People who move to Australia bring their own cultural and religious traditions. Over time, they also embrace new ones. Together, these shared traditions enrich our communities and strengthen our national identity.
Join us for workshops across the region, with hands-on activities that celebrate culture, diversity, inclusion and mutual respect.
