Historical Significance

The name "Carripook" is derived from an Aboriginal term meaning "small hill." The area once featured the Carripook railway siding, established in the 1920s, which played a vital role in local transportation until its closure in the 1990s.

Carripook Park forms part of a larger parcel of land first purchased in 1906 by Captain William Muir, a Port River pilot who lived in Semaphore. Captain Muir intended to use the property as a peaceful weekend retreat in the Adelaide Hills. Nearly 90 years later, in 1995, the Stirling Council acquired the 1.6-hectare site, preserving it as public open space for community use and enjoyment.
