This striking mural was created by artist Thomas Readett in collaboration with the Kaurna Yerta Aboriginal Corporation (KYAC).

Guided by KYAC’s design brief, the artwork reflects themes of duality, dusk and dawn, night and day, people and fauna, all existing together in harmony across the two walls of the overpass.

At its centre is a portrait of Ipparityi (Ivaritji), a legendary Kaurna woman born in 1849. She was a skilled weaver and a strong figure in Kaurna history, remembered for her resilience and cultural leadership.

  • Location: Junction Creek Overpass, Onkaparinga Valley Road, Balhannah

  • Commissioned by: SA Department for Infrastructure and Transport
