About the Sculpture

Installed in 2025, the Lobethal Reconciliation Firepit is a striking metal fire sculpture located at the front entrance of Fabrik Arts + Heritage. Designed as both a functional fire pit and a public artwork, the sculpture provides a gathering space for community connection, particularly during the cooler months.

Artist Collaboration

The sculpture was created by James Hamilton, an award-winning local metal artisan from J Hamilton Design in Paracombe.

James worked in collaboration with Aboriginal artist Paul Herzich (pictured above), from mantirridesign, to incorporate elements of the Shared Country reconciliation artwork into the sculpture’s design. This partnership reflects Adelaide Hills Council’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation and cultural inclusion.

The Lobethal Reconciliation Firepit is more than a work of art, it’s a place where community can gather, especially in winter, to enjoy warmth, storytelling and shared experiences.

Visit the Sculpture

You’ll find the sculpture just outside the main entrance to Fabrik Arts + Heritage, located within the historic Lobethal Woollen Mill precinct. Visitors are welcome to drop by, explore the site, and experience this unique blend of art, culture and community.
