The bikes are back in town this January as the Adelaide Hills prepares to host stages of the Women's and the Men's Santos Tour Down Under.

Two stages of the Women's race will finish in the district; Stage 1 with an exhilarating sprint into the main street of Birdwood and Stage 3 seeing riders fight for victory along the famous Stirling circuit.

Starting in Lobethal for the second time in the race's history, Stage 3 of the Men's race will see the peloton will complete two laps of Lobethal and Charleston, before making its way up Fox Creek Road for Subaru King of the Mountain. Riders will then fly through Lenswood and into Uraidla to begin seven dramatic laps of the Piccadilly Valley on the way to the finish line.

It's going to be a busy and exciting time in the Hills.
Stay up to date with the latest STDU developments via this page and our social media channels.

UCI WorldTour riders will check in for Subaru Stage 3 at the historic start/finish line of the 1938 South Australian Grand Prix and 1939 Australian Grand Prix. Now 80 years later, this start line will see another "exciting spectacle" (as described in the local papers at the time), but now on bicycles. We expect that the spectators will be equal in voice and colour for this modern-day contest.

THURSDAY 17 JANUARY 2019
ALONG THE ROUTE |
SEVEN LAPS OF THE PICCADILLY VALLEY

Piccadilly Vantage
10:00am - 3:00pm

Watch the Subaru Stage 3 pelaton as it completes seven laps around the Piccadilly Valley by joining Piccadilly Vantage. Watch the bikes from underneath the shady oak trees, or take a stroll to Spring Gully Road and watch the cyclists battle one of the steepest sections of the circuit.

Opt to take up a vantage point at the Piccadilly Community Hall (171 Piccadilly Road) and help the locals celebrate the building's centenery year. Over the past 100 years it has been a meeting hall for the Crafers District Council (until 1935), a dance hall during WWII (1939-1945), and was a refuge during the Ash Wednesday Fires in 1983. It is a community-owned and community-run hall with great historical significance, and will host a wonderful atmosphere on race day.

Woodhouse Lock-in
9:00am - 3:00pm

If a family fun day sounds like a good fit for you on race day, then maybe head along to the Lock-in at Woodhouse Activity Centre- a Scouts SA property with loads of family activities (37 Spring Gully Road, Piccadilly). Food, fun, and a fantastic atmosphere will be the order of the day at the roadside of this 54-hectare property as you watch the pelaton complete its laps around Piccadilly Valley.
