Join illustrator and graphic designer Karen Briggs for a special Storytime to celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day.

For preschool children ages three to five.

Karen is a proud descendant of the Yorta Yorta people, whose ancestral homeland centers around the junction of the Goulburn and Murray Rivers in Northeast Victoria.

As a designer and illustrator, she draws inspiration from her deep love of animals and nature, as well as cherished memories of holidays spent with her grandmother at the Cummeragunja (Our Home) Mission.

Karen holds a Bachelor of Design in Illustration from the University of South Australia and a Diploma in Applied Design (Multimedia) from TAFE SA. She now resides in the Adelaide foothills, where she works from her home-based studio.

Karen has illustrated three picture books, various short stories, and even a poem for "The Hush Treasure Book," in addition to educational readers for schools. Her debut picture book, Kick with My Left Foot, written by Paul Seden, was published by Allen & Unwin in 2014 and was shortlisted for the CBCA Crichton Award in 2015.

Karen loves sharing stories from her books about Aboriginal culture and conducting art workshops and activities on these themes. Through these, she aims to pass on elements of Aboriginal culture and values to the younger generation.
