Development Application Process
All development is required to go through a development application and approval process which is mostly facilitated through the state government's state-wide planning system, PlanSA.
Anyone undertaking construction, alteration or addition of a building or structure, change to current use of land, or anything that modifies a designated heritage item must seek development approval prior to commencing any work.
All Development Applications are lodged via the PlanSA portal. A range of information is needed to assess applications, with some applications needing more than others. The information below outlines the type of information required, the steps you can expect as we assess your application and useful links to track and monitor applications.
We encourage you to contact us to discuss your plans before you commence any kind of development work to ensure you have considered all the relevant issues.

Development approval is the process of acquiring the necessary consents to proceed with development of land, buildings and infrastructure.
Track your development application through our Development Application Registers.
Public Notification is an important part of the planning system as it provides an opportunity for the public to comment on development that may impact them, the community and environment more generally.
After development approval is granted, a Decision Notification Form will be issued that lists the mandatory building notifications and timeframes that are required to be submitted.
