Don’t discard your well-worn knitwear and woollens. Repair them!
Restore and revive your favourite jumpers, socks, beanies or other knitwear in this hands-on workshop with experienced and long-time stitcher Ann Schulz. Ann will introduce you to a visible form of mending (the warp and weft weaving technique) often used for repairing damage or holes where patching is impractical. To make the learning process easier we will be repairing small areas of damage or small holes with contrasting coloured yarn.
Bring one knitwear or woollen item (or one pair of socks) that needs repair. At the end of this session, you will leave with the confidence and new skills to continue your darning journey.
About the workshop facilitator:
Ann is an accomplished, prize-winning stitcher, who at the age of 10 was taught to use a sewing machine by her dressmaker mother. Learning to knit and embroider in primary school, she continued developing her garment and textile crafting skills into adulthood. Since retiring from a career in nursing, Ann was able to focus her passion for stitching, producing most of her own clothes and textile homeware items, while from time-to-time teaching darning and sewing to the public. Mindful of the high volume of waste created by the clothing and textile industries, Anne employs a wide range of needlework skills to mend people’s garments through her local Repair Café, therefore extending their lives and keeping them out of landfill.
