Seeking Expressions of Interest to support Save Our Wildlife Foundation
Do you have land, resources, or funding that could help save our local wildlife?
We are inviting the community and organisations to put forward Expressions of Interest (EOI) to support the future of the Save Our Wildlife Foundation Inc. (SOWFI).
SOWFI is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run service that operates 24/7 across South Australia. In the past year alone, its dedicated team responded to over 11,000 rescue calls, with more than 10% of these in the Hills between Crafers and Blackwood.
Right now, SOWFI is at risk of losing essential philanthropic funding unless it can secure a suitable base in the Adelaide Hills.
Wildlife Finishing School for possums
To meet this challenge, SOWFI hopes to create a Wildlife Finishing School, a first for the region. The school would:
- Provide five large aviaries where possums can build the strength and skills they need before being released back into the wild.
- Give 130 more possums every year a second chance at life.
- Offer new and meaningful volunteering opportunities for locals who want to care for wildlife but cannot do so at home.
- Provide extra aviary space for carers and even temporary housing for koalas in bushfire emergencies.
Thanks to generous support from Terra Artemis, funding for the aviaries is already secured. What’s needed now is a piece of land (about 1,000–2,000m²) with access to power, water and secure storage to make the school a reality.
Importantly, no animals will be released at the site, all will be returned to their original rescue locations under state permits.
Why a secure home base is important
SOWFI’s volunteers are there around the clock for injured, sick, and orphaned animals. A secure home base in the Hills would not only safeguard their future but also open up new opportunities for the community to get involved in wildlife care.
Express your support
If you or your organisation can help, whether by providing land, resources, or funding, we would love to hear from you.
