Stay alert this winter, as bushfire risk may be higher than usual
Ongoing dry conditions, driven by higher-than-average atmospheric pressure over South Australia, are contributing to a drier landscape, in line with broader climate change trends. South Australia continues to experience long-term rainfall deficiencies, which further increase the risk of bushfires.
While drought conditions have reduced the fire risk in pasture and crop areas, they have led to an abundance of dry fuel, such as grass and forest vegetation, heightening bushfire risk for the 2025 winter season.
The SA Country Fire Service has advised people to remain vigilant about weather conditions and associated safety risks when conducting burn-offs, using campfires, or disposing of ash from combustion heaters.
